This book is strange and wonderful in the very same ways; incredible vocabulary, an interesting plot, and never before seen characters. After Noah becomes hypnotized, you begin to experience the world through his eyes as he finds himself as a person in this quirky coming of age novel. References to pop culture and realistic dialogue make it easy to delve into the mind of the characters and connect to the story on a personal level. There are moments of happiness, humor, and sadness that are beautifully honest and real. The author David Arnold outdid himself with this story, by expressing the mind of a 16-year-old boy in the most creative and whimsical way possible. I would rate this book 5/5 stars and recommend it to anyone with a love of Arnold’s storytelling and an interest in theatrical characters.

It was quite a ride. Noah's narration is partly his own reflections (A Concise History of Me) and partly the story of the first semester of his senior year of high school. Like the cover, much of the story seems larger than life and technicolor. Noah is a neatnik and a deep thinker. The connections he makes between historical figures bring the series Seinfeld to mind. Much of the book is Noah's stream of consciousness and when I got to the end of the book I marveled at all the ways the minute details of Noah's story could all be tied together with his four fascinations. A fun read, but also teaches many a life lessons about families, friends and forgiveness. One plus one plus one equals one.

Noah is struggling to figure out his future and is tired of trying to meet everyone’s expectations all the time. While attending a party with his friends, Noah gets hypnotized. He starts to notice changes in the things around him: his mom has a mysterious scar that was never there before and his friends don’t remember certain memories they shared with Noah. Even though Noah's world is slightly altered, some things remain the same, like his little sister Penny and his Strange Fascinations.

After previously reading and really enjoying ‘Mosquitoland,’ I was eager to read David Arnold’s newest novel. This book definitely did not disappoint. I adore the set of characters that we are given in this story and love the relationship Noah and his friends have together. This book was very relevant to today’s time, packing in references to things and people that I can relate to and enjoy. David Arnold’s writing style gives this book a zany and quirky feeling that really suits the premise of the story.

The synopsis of the book was very intriguing, but I sometimes felt like the main idea of the story was lost and became several different plot lines. The twist in the end was also somewhat predictable, but still caught me off guard.

Although there were a few things that were lacking for me, I overall loved the eccentricity of this novel and the characters within it. -Shae-Lynn
