The triumphant story of three extraordinary women whose courage to defy a century of injustice would inspire a nation! Abandoned by society and cast out by their families for crimes they did not commit, they found themselves stripped of their liberty and dignity and condemned to indefinite sentences of manual labor within the church-run Magdalene Laundries to cleanse themselves of their "sins."

Wow! Had to give this film 5 stars. How much more horrendous abuse by the Catholic Church is still to be uncovered? Knowing this atrocious story is true leaves one feeling nauseous.

Written and directed by Peter Mullan in 2002, this Irish-British drama delves into the lives of four teenage girls in Magdalene Asylum maintained by individual religious orders in the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland.
The girls in the asylum do such disgusting things at times simply because they are placed in such a disgusting place and treated in such disgusting ways.
Father Fitzroy (NOT a man of God) abuses one of the inmates, and later he will dance furiously in the buff during the important open-air ceremony because his clothes have been washed with skin irritant so that he should be revenged.
I almost laughed out loud to death.

It is important to get this information out even though it is heartbreaking to watch. It shows us how important it is to require close open inspection of all society groups to ensure humane behaviour, and not assuming humane behaviour occurs in the name of religion. This should be required in all religious education curriculum.
