a clever premise, but wasn't impressed with the execution. read a comment elsewhere there were too many errors in the hardback edition. i also noticed several, e.g. not leaving a space between two words, spelling of 'hippy' (counterculture, not curvaceous.)
this was just okay for me.

I don't know if I want to use the 'L' word (!) but I REALLY enjoyed this book. It was so unexpectedly entertaining. It combines a protagonist who is blunt, angry and perhaps a bit aggressive with an unlikely supporting character and a rather haunting true-crime podcast (you will know the part I am talking about when you read it) . What does the podcast have to do with her?? What is the secret that she has been keeping from everyone, even her husband? And what is going to happen next? Do NOT start this book if you have work / cooking / cleaning / laundry / parenting / sleep to do. It is hard to put down! (But the chapters are nice and short so you can always find time for one more!!!)

I loved reading this book! So well written and a fascinating story. Characters multi-faceted and story complex but understandable. Read it every chance I had because I wanted to know what would happen next! A great read!

I love love love Denise Mina's Scottish voice and dialogue. She drops the f bomb quite a bit, but it's not gratuitous, that's just the way her characters would speak in real life. The Scottish wit comes shining through in all her writing, and the Conviction is no exception. Lots of plot twists that keep you guessing, surprise ending delivers a great punch. I find her incredibly easy to read and the book moves right along at a good clip.

If you’re into true crime and thrillers, then you’ll enjoy Denise Mina’s newest book: Conviction. The story centers the main character Anna Mc Donald. The setting is contemporary and over seas being that Denise Mina is a Scottish writer. The European flair draws you in as well as the very descriptive writing. Anna has survived a traumatic experience and has done well for self in not allowing her past trauma to consume her and moving on with her life. Anna describes how she courts her husband Hamish of whom she marries and has two daughters: Jessie and Lizzie. When Anna describes Hamish as someone that is marriage material not someone she’d lust after, really set the tone as far as the humor and dark humor went throughout the book.
The contemporary relatable topics I found most obvious are the true crime podcast obsession which got her into trouble and managed to bring back her traumatic past, the introduction of the character Fin Cohen with his celebrity status and bringing to light the pressures of stardom such as anorexia, social media power and in Fin’s case a presence with mass followers, the concept of social justice and spreading viral news like wildfire in the matter of seconds, classiest overtones concerning Hamish, Anna, and the introduction of other characters such as Estelle and Adam who is encountered on a train.
All in all, this is a contemporary true crime thriller that is worth checking out.

I loved the unique way the author had a true crime podcast as the catalyst for this riveting thriller. The cast of characters were interesting, the story fast paced, and there were a few added mysteries to keep you thoroughly engaged.
