"'Everybody lies about their lives. What would happen if you shared the truth?' This is the question that Julian Jessop, an eccentric, seventy-nine-year-old artist, poses within a pale green exercise book that he labels The Authenticity Project, before leaving it behind in Monica's Café. When Monica discovers Julian's abandoned notebook, not only does she add her own story to the book, she is determined to find a way to help Julian feel less lonely. And so it goes with the others who find the green notebook that will soon contain their deepest selves. It will also knit the group together In Real Life at Monica's Cafe, where they'll discover the thrill and sometime-risk of being completely honest--and, for some, find unexpected love"--Provided by publisher.

This book is a delightful change of pace. Charming, uh-oh, and yes, of course in a lively, lovely read.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was a page turner. I enjoyed the depth it went into individual characters. Definitely, recommend this book.

Some books come to you at the right time, and this was one such book for me. I really needed something fun and uplifting, and this truly was a “feel good” read. The writer’s style is very similar to one of my favorite authors, Liane Moriarty, though the content is lighter. We really get to delve into the feelings of the characters and join them through their introspection and personal growth. I liked the way the book was divided into many POV chapters, and found that it made the story very fast-paced and engaging. I enjoyed the uniqueness of each character voice, and though I found some of the premise to be rather far-fetched, I still found it relatable and I wanted to believe in the characters. This book really brings into focus the importance of authenticity to build meaningful relationships, and had an interesting focus on how we as individuals create our own narratives and truths. It was very fascinating and gave me much to ponder.

Really enjoyed this book in audiobook format. It was smooth and well narrated. I felt the performer really added depth to the characters.

I loved how this book made me feel. Happy and content. I really enjoyed the different characters and reading about their connections to each other. I didn't want to book to end. It was warm story about connections, love and friends turning into family.

Authenticity Project has been called the "feel good book of 2020" and it certainly is in the running for such a description! This is a sweet book about connection, community, and a group of well-intentioned people who make a few missteps on their way to expressing their truest selves.

What a sweet story. A little green notebook, left behind, that changes the lives of all who find it.

The premise of this book was certainly novel (pun intended!) but quite unrealistic. If the characters had written their life stories anonymously it would certainly be believable. To give away your names and privacy and entire angst filled life into the hand of a total stranger, is ludicrous. That is where this book just nose dived for me. Julian was probably the best character in this book. The others did not draw me in and the ending was obvious from the very beginning!! Not sure what all the hype was about!!

The Authenticity Project shows us the rich complexities of life hidden behind the seemingly perfect images people put on display with others and on social media. The story jumps from the perspectives of one character to another, and the reader quickly sees just how easily people can be misunderstood. I absolutely enjoyed reading this book, and once I started reading I couldn't stop! A great pick that made me think how I can be more authentic in my own life.
