Through a series of questions, the author tells the story of the discovery of Monarch butterflies’ migration. The discovery cannot be attributed to just one person, and she is careful to credit all who were involved, with a special focus away from just American white people who were part of the process. The Author’s note points out that history depends on who tells the story, and she works hard to represent all involved as part of this history. Beautifully illustrated story about the teamwork it took to uncover this natural mystery.

Sometimes a scientific discovery comes from one individual but more often than not, it comes from many people over the course of many years, often across different disciplines, each contributing to the bigger picture. This beautifully illustrated nonfiction read-aloud tells the story of how many people it took to solve the mystery of the monarch butterfly migration, and how many more are needed to make sure the monarchs don't disappear. It is sure to be an inspiring story to share with early elementary students!
