The Records of the Douglas County Open Lands Coalition includes primarily minutes, activities and other related materials from the Douglas County Open Lands Coalition, as well as minutes and varied materials from other citizen group such as the Happy Canyon Preservation Association, Happy Canyon Homeowners Association, and the High Plateau Coalition. Also included are details of open space legislation and newspaper clippings dealing with open space, growth, and conservation issues in Douglas County. It documents efforts of concerned citizens in Douglas County to preserve open space in light of the tremendous population growth in the 1980s and 1990s. The success of these groups is defined by the open space legislation they succeeded in getting passed into law. Most notable of these were Initiative 100 (1994) and Referendum 1-B (1996).
