Nell's CureVideo Cassette - 2005
During the latter part of the 19th century, many people migrated to Colorado with the hopes of recovering from tuberculosis, or consumption as it was then called. This video highlights a legend about Nell Nimerick, a young girl with the disease who had come to Douglas County in 1873 with her family. While many at the time were aware of her illness, no mention is made of it in any newsprint. However the legend of Nell continues to this day, that over a period of time she carried stones up a butte near her home to form a 10-12 foot high cairn in hope that the exercise would help her recover from her disease.
