"Someone has robbed aging strip-club owner and low-level gangster Manco Kapak. His thugs think the culprit is L.A. newcomer Joe Carver (it's not) and attempt to get rid of him. But Carver's not defenseless, and when his innocence continues to be disputed, he counterattacks with a vengeance, putting Kapak in hot water with higher-ups in the drug world, while the actual thief and his sociopathic new love step up their crime spree. Meanwhile, the detective in charge of solving the crimes is distracted by the financial pressures of his two secret families. There's a lot going on here, but author Thomas Perry handles the multiple plot strands and one-of-a-kind characters with ease, making Strip "pure, unadulterated fun" (Library Journal)." I first read this when I had the flu, which must have clouded my judgment terribly - - it is really a grand book, superb throughout.
Equal parts Shakespeare, Atom Egoyan and extreme noir!
Easily one of Perry's Top Ten, possibly Top Five [I put Metzger's Dog, the Big Fish and Island in the Top Three]!
It often irks me that in Thomas Perry's books, everybody or almost everybody, is crooked, but given my experience in the workplace [private sector] over the past five decades, I must agree with him!

Very interesting story about the seedy side of police, bars, thieves, murders, strip clubs and bigamists. 9 of 10 stars

The plot is solid, and the action is non-stop. "Strip" is a book for readers who don't mind seedy characters, beatings, and shootings. I enjoyed reading it but had an uncomfortable feeling that it was written in hopes of a movie contract. It is a harsher version of Donald Westlake's Dortmunder gang.
