In this sweeping history, Jennifer Michael Hecht celebrates doubt as an engine of creativity and as an alternative to the political and intellectual dangers of certainty -- Just as belief has its own history featuring people whose unique expressions of faith have forever changed the world, doubt has a vibrant story and tradition with its own saints martyrs, and sages.

A great book that goes into massive amounts of detail on the history of doubt by comparing all the various viewpoints held throughout history.

This would make a fantastic text book for a history of religion, critical thinking, or even a basic history of human culture class.

The only drawback is that there is so much material, that getting through it in a single loan period will be difficult.
