This book is absolutely amazing and it’s one of my favourite dystopian series. The storyline of this book is absolutely amazing and it will want you to keep on turning the pages. This book is perfect if you like adventure and action. The book itself is about 16-year-old Beatrice who lives in a world divided into factions, and what she goes through when she finds out she doesn’t belong to any of the factions. This book is incredible, and if you like dystopian novels this is the perfect book for you! I love this series, but the first book was my favourite, after the first book the series seems like its being dragged out. But, overall the series is still pretty good. I would rate this book a 5/5 @Khutoria of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Divergent, by Veronica Roth, was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Tris, the main character, is a very strong and likeable protagonist, who is someone that you want to route for during the entire narrative. In fact, the story had a lot of great characters in it, which was one of my favourite aspects. The storyline itself was very well developed, and the plot consistently moved forward. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys YA novels! The setting and concepts are all very interesting, and the ending left me both satisfied but wanting more. It is a very good book, and a fast read! @PenelopeScriptor of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Although Divergent falls into many well-known and used dystopian tropes, the fast paced and tense plot keeps it interesting, but in my opinion should’ve been left as a stand alone rather than a trilogy. The main character, Tris Prior, is easy to root for because of her determination and will. She’s admirable because she tries even in the face of hardship and her own inexperience. The future technologies introduced like the Fear Simulation used in Dauntless training or others introduced are really interesting and keep the reader engaged, curious, and aware of the setting being a dystopian version of Chicago. 4/5. @ClockworkReader of The Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board Divergent is the first novel in the Divergent trilogy written by Veronica Roth. The main character is Beatrice Prior who lives in a dystopian society where everyone is divided into one of five factions. Their is her faction, Abnegation, for the selfless, Candor for the honest, Amity for the peaceful, Erudite for the intellectual, and Dauntless for the brave. Beatrice is sixteen which means she will take part in the choosing ceremony where she can choose to stay in Abnegation or choose another faction. Once she is initiated into the faction there is no going back, and if you do not pass initiation, then you become factionless left to live in poverty. I would recommend this novel to anyone interested in dystopian novels or young adult novels like The Hunger Games or The Maze Runner. The book is very fast-paced and commonly noted as an action-packed dystopia. There is also a lot of violence, making this novel a mature read not suitable for a younger audience. Divergent is engaging, entertaining, and empowering to girls and young women. Overall, if I had to rate this novel, I would rate it five out of five stars. @SapphireReads of The Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
