While this book is a quick read, it is not one of Berry's better books. Normally I can suspend disbelief long enough to read one of his books, but this one really makes it tough. I admire that he tried to add some pirates to the mix (who doesn't love pirates?) but the story just never really takes off. And can we retire the recurring them of Mr. Malone's strange first name? Either explain it or drop it because nobody cares! The other gripe I have with this book is the writing style. Berry (and just about every "action" author) uses fairly short series or chapters to keep the reader engaged. However, in this book he jumps from character to character after ONE sentence. This style is really choppy and hard to follow.
