I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I remember hearing Jodi speak before this book was written -- someone asked what her next book would be, and she said it would have to do with elephants, so I've been looking forward to this book for several years. I love how thoroughly she researches her subjects, and felt confident that what I was learning about elephant behavior was accurate. I have a much greater appreciation for them and their society. I liked that this audio book was narrated in different voices for each character. The voice for Alice was a bit langourous, appropriate for the story line that started way in the past and slowly worked toward the present, but a little tedious. The other characters, were working backward from the present, and the interweaving of the stories was well done, as was the growth and learning process of the characters. The ending seemed a bit contrived with unexpected twists in the tale that made me wonder if there were hints I missed earlier in the book. It makes me want to read (listen to) it again now that I know how it ends.
