Tediously slow and unconvincing tale. I was particularly perturbed when it turned out [spoiler alert!] that Romer was actually a Russian/English double spy. Why spy for the Russians in the early days of WWII? Because, writer Boyd would have us believe, the Russians didn't want the US involved in the European conflict, because the Russians wanted to control Europe when it was all over. Bull! There is no historical proof of this cockeyed idea. Russia was concerned about merely surviving WWII - they weren't counting on actually winning the war.
