This novel, set in the 1920s during prohibition, brings to light many of the different social and ethnic groups existing and often clashing in Colorado at the time; the Klan, police, bootleggers, Italians, Chinese, Irish, Jews, Protestants, farmers, and miners. Events soon lead these various players towards a bloody showdown in the sleepy crossroads town of Franktown. Against this backdrop are two young lovers from different groups seeking to escape the violence and start a new life together. Some parts of the novel drag on a bit too long and it presents so many fascinating historical facts that it sometimes overwhelms the story but overall it is a clever and fun glimpse in to Colorado's past.
