Great documentary about James Brown. Produced by Mick Jagger (the Stones performed on the TAMI show which also featured JB.)
Background about his life - he was abandoned by both his parents, went to live with his aunt who ran a brothel and at 15 was arrested for stealing and was sentenced and served an 8 year prison sentence.
He was a dynamic performer and a consummate businessman. He is described as talented and ruthless. His band voiced some concerns and he fired them all. He lived during turbulent times especially for black people and had a turbulent personality.
Great footage of performances and recording. Great comments from bandmembers like Jabo Starks, Clyde Stubblefield and Melvin & Maceo Parker talking about their creation of the funk beat (on the 1). Great music.
