As always, Shannon's prose and world-building are splendid, but the majority of the book focuses on Sophie's physical recovery after an incident at the beginning of the book, so all in all, Flashback is more of an emotional roller-coaster than an action-packed read - think of it as a "part one" of a movie. That said, not much happens (of major "plotty" import). If only Flashback could've been combined with the contents of the next yet-to-be-published book... that would've been a far more explosive read. Of course, where's the fun in NOT leaving the fan base hanging like that? Come for the ships and the alicorns, but stay for the major (and by then, way-overdue) cliffhanger (and I don't mean the shipping one) at the end.
