Ms. Mendez-Estrada immigrated to the United States in 2008 from Piedras Anchas (Primera del Monte), Mexico. In this interview, she speaks about her life in Mexico, her early childhood, and her journey to the U.S. She talks about being one of the few Mexican immigrants in Douglas County Public Schools, and discusses her appreciation for her education and family, experiences with racism, and the challenges of poverty and growing up undocumented in Castle Rock. She also talks about becoming an activist for immigrant rights with MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán). Show less
